The 2016 judges are Mollie Battenhouse, master of wine, advanced sommelier; Bob Foster, chief judge, Central Coast Wine Competition, Paso Robles, Calif.; Tim Hanni, master of wine, Sonoma State University wine faculty; Richard Jennings, wine writer and critic, RJonWine.com; Adam Lapierre, master of wine, San Francisco Wine School staff; Luke Sykora, senior editor for Wine & Spirits Magazine. There are only 338 certified masters of wine, confirmed by The Institute of Masters of Wine in the United Kingdom. The collection experts herald a significant change in the competition, OWE organizers said. In the past, Oregon Wine Competition entries were restricted to wines made with 100 percent Southern Oregon AVA grapes. This year the competition will open up to all wines made with 100-percent Oregon AVA grapes.
