Wooton, Munoz pace South to win GIRLS PREP BASKETBALL GRANTS PASS -- Lynn Wooton and Nicole Munoz sparked South Medford in the first half and the Panthers held on for a 54-49 victory over Grants Pass in the Southern Oregon Conference girls basketball season finale Tuesday. The Cavers turned the ball over on three of their first four possessions and South capitalized by grabbing a 17-8 first-quarter lead. That proved to be the difference in the contest. The Panthers connected on 9 of 10 free throws in the opening period, with Wooton sinking 5 of 6. The South Medford junior forward finished with 16 points, including 8 of 10 from the foul line. "She did a good job of taking the ball to the basket," South Medford coach Andrea Wegner said. Munoz took over in the second period by scoring 10 of her 12 points and grabbing five rebounds. Munoz was knocked out of the game with a concussion near the end of the third quarter. "She (Munoz) came up big for us," said Wegner. "She really played tough and gave us a big lift." Grants Pass junior wing Kaci Williams contributed a game-high 17 points to accompany six rebounds, five steals and three assists. KLAMATH UNION 51, EAGLE POINT 34 -- At Eagle Point, Dusty Damon had a banner season for Eagle Point, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the Eagles, who ended the SOC campaign at 1-13. Damon notched a game-high 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds to set the school single-season rebounding record, but Klamath Union used a balanced attack to clinch the SOC fourth-place spot. Damon finished the year with 210 rebounds, two more than the previous record. Klamath Union freshman forward Amy Denson scored 13 points to lead three players in double figures. Wright scored 16 of her team's 18 points in the second quarter to extend the lead to eight going into the half. Mindi Yost added 12 points and six rebounds for the Chiefs.
