October 08. 2014 5:56PM Rental vacancies increase Southern Oregon Rental Owners Association members reported a 4.4 percent vacancy rate during September. Of the 5,765 units by owners and property managers in Jackson and Josephine counties, 254 were vacant. SOROA reported a 2.4 percent vacancy rate a year ago. 'Zombie' homes on the decrease Eugene-based Gorilla Capital reported 68 percent of homes it purchased during the third quarter of 2014 in the 24 Oregon counties where it operates were abandoned homes. That is 25 percent fewer year-round, neighborhood "zombie" homes reported than in the same quarter in 2013. Year to date, 74 percent of the houses purchased by Gorilla Capital in Oregon have been zombie homes as compared to 90 percent in 2013 during the same time period. Oregon's workers' comp rates among lowest in U.S. The state Department of Consumer and Business Services said Wednesday Oregon's workers' compensation rates are among the lowest in the country, according to the latest national figures. As of Jan 1, Oregon had the ninth least-expensive rates, improving from No. 13 in 2012. DCBS recently said rates would decline an average of 5.3 percent in 2015. California has the most expensive rates, followed by Connecticut. North Dakota had the least expensive rates.
