Federal funds will improve Rogue Valley infrastructure A $3.68 million federal funding package will pay a portion of the costs to improve freeway interchanges in Medford and help the Rogue Valley Transportation District replace older buses. The money is included in a transportation funding bill passed Tuesday by the House of Representatives, said Rep. Greg Walden. "These infrastructure improvements are badly needed to keep up with a rapidly growing population in the area," Walden said in a prepared statement. "These are good investments for the economy of the Rogue Valley." According to Walden, $2 million will be used to help improve Interstate 5 access at Highway 62 and Barnett Road. RVTD will use the other $1.68 million to buy new natural gas-powered buses. State transportation officials want to overhaul the north and south freeway interchanges to control congestion and improve connections between I-5 and the region.
