Elizabeth Rose Sabin, 48, was being held late Saturday in the Jackson County Jail on attempted murder and other felony charges relating to Thursday’s shooting at a trailer home in the 600 block of Minthorne Road in Wimer. Her bail was set at more than $2 million. "We found her in line, ordering food," said Grants Pass police officer Dave Daniel. "We took her into custody before she had a chance to eat breakfast." Grants Pass police transported Sabin to the Jackson-Josephine county line, where she was handed over to Jackson County sheriff’s deputies and arrested, Daniel said. Advertisement Police said earlier this week they believed Sabin was armed and dangerous. But Daniel said that when officers confronted her at the McDonald’s on Beacon Drive at about 7 a.m. Saturday, she was not carrying a weapon and appeared calm. "Things went very smoothly," Daniel said. "It appeared to me that she had been on the road. She was fairly dirty." Family members described Sabin as being mentally unstable. At about 8:45 a.m. Thursday, she allegedly fired an undetermined number of shots from a small-caliber rifle at her brother, Albert Sabin, 44, who was on the front porch of the family’s trailer home at the time. He was not injured. Another brother, Larry Sabin, 59, also lives in the home and said he believes he was the intended target. Larry Sabin said he was to testify as a character witness in a civil suit filed by his sister that was dismissed. More than a dozen sheriff’s deputies, assisted by Medford and Rogue River police, searched all day Thursday for Elizabeth Sabin. The effort was scaled back on Friday. Jackson County sheriff’s investigators said Thursday they believed the woman might have been headed to Grants Pass. Daniel said he was one of several officers who in April coaxed Elizabeth Sabin down from a Grants Pass bridge after she threatened to jump into the Rogue River. Besides attempted murder, Sabin is also charged with attempted first-degree assault, eight counts of reckless endangering and six counts of menacing. Attempted murder is a Measure 11 crime that carries a mandatory minimum prison term of seven years and five months upon conviction.
