Hedge blocks sight line This letter is in reference to the corner of Foss Road and Main Street/Wagner (Creek) Road in Talent. It is a dangerous corner. It leaves a total blind sight corner for being able to see any traffic from any position in a vehicle (except maybe a high rig) entering from Foss Road. My question: Isn't there something the town of Talent can do to make this a safe corner for traffic entering Main Street/Wagner (Creek) Road? -- Robert B., Talent City officials weren't aware of the problem at that intersection, Robert. But your question has sparked them to action. A quick investigation of the situation confirmed your report -- it's extremely difficult to see to the right as you are turning left from Foss Road onto Wagner Creek Road. Public works director Tim Dedrick did say that the intersection across from the Talent Elementary School is a congested one. Dedrick said that every day, 5,600 vehicles, 29 bus routes and 1,200 students pass by that very spot. But more than congestion, the problem at the intersection is a six-foot-high hedge. After making a few inquiries, city planner Nancy Kincaid confirmed that city code requires hedges and fences within 25 feet of intersections to be less than 4 feet high so as not to obscure traffic vision. Kincaid says the city will make an effort to contact the owner of the property, and the hedge will be trimmed to conform with city code. While we're talking about that area, we might as well mention that the city is about to begin a sidewalk, storm drain, curb and gutter project from Schoolhouse Road and Wagner Creek Road down Main Street to the railroad tracks.
