Smelcer starts new job at BLM Longtime Forest Service employee Mary Smelcer began her new job Monday as the associate district manager of the Bureau of Land Management's Medford District. Smelcer, who had worked for the Forest Service for more than two decades, filled the position left vacant by Wayne Kuhn, who retired a year ago. She was most recently acting deputy forest supervisor for the Rogue River and Siskiyou national forests. Earlier, she served in the Applegate and Ashland ranger districts. "Mary brings extensive experience to the district and has a long track record of public outreach and community involvement which is essential to maintaining our relationships with customers and business partners across the Rogue Valley," said Ron Wenker, Medford District manager. Smelcer, who has a bachelor's degree in forest resources management from Southern Illinois University, began her Forest Service career in 1978 in Northern California.
