The latest of the three incidents, a failed attempt reported at 11 a.m. Thursday in the 1200 block of Skeeters Lane, was thwarted by an alarm. Medford police said the suspect had pried open a side door to a garage with a screwdriver, but an alarm spooked the burglar. Two days earlier, a homeowner in the 1800 block of Hibiscus Street awakened to suspicious noises coming from his garage at 10:30 p.m. He went to investigate and saw a light-skinned male in his early 20s with a slender build attempting to steal a Honda dirt bike. Police said the suspect abandoned the dirt bike and fled but had already stolen two FIT BMX bikes valued at $500 apiece before being discovered. A pry bar was found at the scene, police said Police believe the same suspect broke into a house Jan. 29 in the 800 block of Wabash Avenue during the day and stole $6,000 worth of firearms, electronics, cash and family heirloom jewelry. No signs of forced entry were noted in that case, police said. None of the property from the break-ins has been recovered. Because the three properties are located close together and two of them involve a door being pried, investigators believe the same person is likely responsible for all of them. Police are encouraging neighbors to be aware of suspicious activity and to notify authorities if they see anything. They also encourage homeowners to document serial numbers of valuables, because those details can be a big help to police in theft  and burglary cases. "Know this burglar is active during the daytime," Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said. "A lot of people think burglars aren't active during the daytime. They think it's a nighttime event."
