Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend July 3, 2005 Medford couple faces identity theft charges A Medford couple has been arrested on charges they used other people’s identities to pass several checks created on home computers, police said. Danial Paul Ficek, 30, and Deborah Ruth Looney, 34, were both arrested late Thursday at their home in the 700 block of West 11th Street, after several Medford police detectives and patrol officers arrived to serve a search warrant there, police Sgt. Brett Johnson said in a news release. Investigators believe Ficek and Looney gathered personal information from several victims, then used it to create counterfeit checks on home computers. The checks were then passed at several local retailers and banks, police said. Seven individual or commercial victims of the alleged identity theft operation have been identified. Police believe further investigation will turn up additional victims, Johnson said. Advertisement Several computers and documents were seized from the home during the search, police said. Ficek and Looney were both lodged in the Jackson County Jail on felony charges of identity theft, first-degree theft and methamphetamine possession. Ficek was released early Friday because of overcrowding. Looney remained jailed late Saturday, as she was also arrested on an out-of-county warrant charging her with a parole violation. She was being held without bail.
