With precise passing, setters Alex Barry and Taelor Mayben helped outside hitters Emily Carter and Ashley Ripplinger get around the Cavers’ front line for a 25-12, 29-27, 25-23 Southwest Conference triumph at North Medford High. Mayben and Barry, both sophomores, combined for 25 assists — Mayben with 14 and Barry 11. Barry added eight digs, five aces and three kills. Ripplinger dished out five aces for the Black Tornado (8-8, 5-3 SWC), which gave the Cavers trouble at the service line as well. “Ashley set the pace at the service line and that helped us quite a bit,” said Black Tornado coach Erika Wright. “We really put the pressure on them and were able to limit our errors.” Carter recorded 15 kills, 12 digs and four aces, and Ripplinger added 12 digs. THURSTON 3, SOUTH MEDFORD 0: At Springfield, South Medford remained winless with a 25-12, 25-21, 25-10 Southwest Conference setback. Freshman setter Maliah Ratcliff had six assists and six digs for the Panthers (0-10, 0-8 SWC), and sophomore middle Chanel Groom had six kills, two blocks and two aces. Sophomore outside Alyssa Vaughn added three kills, 10 digs and two aces, and senior Clara Garske amassed 16 digs. CRATER 3, NORTH EUGENE 1: At Central Point, a dominant fourth set gave Crater a 25-11, 22-25, 26-24, 25-14 Midwestern League victory. The Comets (9-5, 4-3 MWL) got a career-high 19 kills from senior outside Tori Ianieri and 14 kills and 17 digs from senior outside Destiny Fahndrich. Junior right side Nicole Morse added nine kills and 10 digs. EAGLE POINT 3, SPRINGFIELD 2: At Eagle Point, Eagle Point won its first Midwestern League match, 13-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-20, 15-11. Kylene Briggs had a strong fifth set to cap a fine overall performance for the Eagles (2-11, 1-6 MWL). She had 12 kills, 29 digs and two aces. Megan Ayres tallied 22 assists, 21 digs, four blocks and five aces for the Eagles; Harley Canon-Douglas had seven kills and four digs; and Aliah Darling had three kills, 12 digs and three aces. Michaela Morris moved to libero and was sharp with her passing and digging. ASHLAND 3, CHURCHILL 0: At Ashland, Ashland rolled to a 25-18, 25-17, 25-22 Midwestern League victory. Olivia Rooney had 13 kills, Myla Norvell 17 digs and Karlie Richardson 21 assists for the Grizzlies (12-4, 5-1 MWL), who won the first six points of the match. Alex Crane added seven kills for Ashland, which has won six straight matches. HENLEY 3, PHOENIX 0: At Phoenix, Phoenix had a tough time matching up with the Skyline Conference’s lone undefeated squad Henley, which claimed a 25-9, 25-12, 25-7 victory. Lizett Gutierrez’s 17 digs led the way for the Pirates (3-10, 0-5 Skyline), and Kassidy Calhoun chipped in 11. CASCADE CHRISTIAN 3, ST. MARY’S 0: Freshman libero Aubrey Kievit scored seven of Cascade Christian’s season-high 18 aces as Cascade Christian topped host St. Mary’s, 25-7, 25-4, 25-18 in Southern Cascade League play. Kievit tallied 28 digs while junior outside Claire Hawkins came up with 10 kills and Ellie Brown nine for the Challengers (12-1, 4-0 SCL). For the Crusaders (9-8, 3-1), Emily Johnson was 8-for-8 from the service line. LAKEVIEW 3, ROGUE RIVER 0: At Lakeview, Rogue River fell 25-19, 25-11, 25-14. The Chieftains (0-12, 0-4 Southern Cascade League) received 15 digs from Bella Dodson, 13 from Courtney Sakraida and 12 from both Destiny Rangle and Heather Myer. Morgan McKown and Elly Moulder added three blocks apiece.
