Man arrested for parking lot shooting By SARAH LEMON TALENT - Police arrested a suspect Friday for the attempted murder of a Talent man in a grocery store parking lot. Oliver Kenneth Reid, 63, of Talent was located around 6:15 p.m. at Mr. C's, South Valley View Road and Highway 99, near Ashland. He allegedly met 23-year-old victim Ian Fry at the same location Wednesday and gave him a ride to Tark's Sentry Market in Talent. An employee of the store called police and said a customer appeared to be the wanted man, said Talent Police Chief Elmer Kammel. When police arrived, Reid essentially told Talent Lt. Kevin Kriz he was the man involved in the shooting, said Kammel. Reid was arrested by Talent police and interrogated by the Jackson County interagency major assault/death investigation team. Police authorities would not confirm specific charges Friday. Talent police also located Friday the full-sized 1980s blue pickup with a white canopy observed at the shooting scene at a North Rose Street address in Phoenix. Reid reportedly left the market in this truck. Reid allegedly shot Fry in the forehead with a small-caliber handgun Wednesday following an argument between the two men at Tark's parking lot. Alcohol was involved in the shooting, police said. However, police said they have not determined what the two argued about. Fry also attempted to steal a six-pack of beer from the store before the two argued, Tark's manager Connie Luhman told police Wednesday. It appeared to be the same six-pack of broken green bottles that lay near the store's entrance Wednesday night, police said. Fry's bicycle, which he had apparently taken out of the back of Reid's truck, lay on the ground near the area the shooting reportedly took place. After being shot, Fry reportedly went into the store and asked employees to call 911. While he waited for ambulances to arrive, Fry pressed paper towels to his forehead and repeated he couldn't believe someone would try to kill him, said Luhmann. He also appeared to be drunk, she said. Fry was transported to Rogue Valley Medical Center for treatment and was released the next day around 4 a.m. The bullet didn't penetrate his skull, but exited, causing minor injury.
