October 15. 2014 1:51PM Erickson's Navy contract extended Erickson Inc. said Wednesday its contract with the Navy’s Military Sealift Command for 5th and 7th fleet support has been extended. “We see this as a huge vote of confidence," CEO Udo Rieder said in a press release. "We were proud last year to have been awarded the contract to provide our airlift services to Military Sealift Command. We are even more pleased for our national defense leaders to extend our service and exercise their option to entrust us with the important responsibility to provide personnel and cargo transport.” Erickson will provide ship-based helicopters to support ship-to-ship and shore-to-ship replenishment in the Mediterranean Sea and Pacific Ocean, a procedure the company helped to develop 16 years ago. SA330J Puma helicopters will be stationed on civilian cargo vessels to support Navy convoys. Using the helicopters eliminates hazardous ship-to-ship cargo transfers of munitions, aircraft parts and other supplies.
