Priscilla Rose, 49, of the 2300 block of Table Rock Road, pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges of first-degree manslaughter, second-degree manslaughter, two counts of driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving. Under Oregon's tough-on-crime Measure 11, first-degree manslaughter carries a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison upon conviction. Prosecutors allege Rose was driving under the influence of intoxicants July 27 and caused the death of Debbra Lynn Mauldin. Rose was traveling north on Interstate 5 when she left the freeway at Exit 40 near Gold Hill, lost control of a pickup, smashed into a guard rail and rolled the vehicle several times, Oregon State Police said at the time of the crash. Rose was extricated from the pickup and taken to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. Mauldin died at the scene, according to OSP. According to Mauldin's obituary, the two were sisters. Mauldin, 50, was described as a loving mother who enjoyed reading books, drawing and spending time with her family. She is survived by two sons, two daughters and four grandchildren. A search of Oregon court records shows no other criminal cases against Rose going back at least five years. She was issued a speeding ticket in March. Rose's bail has been set at $1 million. She has a pre-trial conference hearing scheduled for Jan. 11 in Jackson County Circuit Court.
