South boys, HV girls win tournament Qualifying in the fourth and final playoff spot for the stepladder finals didn't deter the South Medford boys in Southern Oregon high school bowling Sunday. The Panthers worked their way through the stepladder finals, defeating top-seeded Eagle Point, 322-295, in the championship match to win the 14-team meet at Medford Lanes. In the girls match at Roxy Ann Lanes, Hidden Valley won the 18-team event. The South boys beat North Valley 343-336 to open the finals. They then tied Ashland at the end of regulation, 378-all, before winning a two-frame rolloff, 36-25. Eagle Point qualified for the No. 1 spot with a 4,791 total, followed by Ashland (4,705), North Valley (4,515) and South Medford (4,495). In girls, Hidden Valley, the No. 3 qualifier, slipped by Roseburg, 346-339, in the championship match. The Mustangs earlier defeated fourth-seeded Grants Pass, 384-292, and North Medford, 382-319. Roseburg qualified with a 4,392 pin total, while No. 2 North Medford rolled a 4,058. Hidden Valley posted a 4,002 qualifying score, while Grants Pass was at 3,998.
