COLLEGE TRACK SOU's Sanders takes fourth in hammer Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 21, 2015 at 7:34 PM Posted May. 21, 2015 at 7:34 PM » Social News GULF SHORES, Ala. — The first day of the NAIA Track & Field Championships was cut short Thursday, but not before Markus Sanders repeated as an All-American and put Southern Oregon University's men on the board in the process. Sanders placed fourth in the hammer, beating his seventh-place showing of a year ago with a throw of 191 feet, 6 inches. The results gave the Raiders five team points, and on Friday Sanders will attempt to become a double-All-American for the second straight year in the discus, in which he was third in 2014. SOU's Danny Parks placed ninth in the hammer with a throw of 171-6.5, missing All-American status by a few inches, but will also compete in the discus. He owns the No. 3 qualifying seed. Concordia (Neb.) filled the top three hammer spots, led by champion Cody Boellstorff's mark of 205-7 . Before events were suspended by a lightning storm — pushing Rebecca Lupescu's 10,000-meter finals and the SOU men's 4x800-meter relay trial back a day — there was more good news for the Raiders. As expected, Amelia Maguin qualified for Saturday's 400-meter hurdles finals with a preliminary time of 1:00.57, the second-fastest in a field of 26 and the fastest in her heat. Doane's Rachel Bramhall ran it in 1:00.54. Kevin Jorgensen and Jessie Rozario missed qualifying in the men's and women's 1,500 races. Jorgensen was 15th of 31 in the prelims with a time of 3:58.17. Rozario, who had been battling illness, was 21st at 5:20.95.
