LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Letters to the Editor, April 26 Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Apr. 26, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Apr. 26, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News Cast the first stone Once again we hear from a person who has chosen a verse out of the Bible to justify prejudice or hate for a person deemed to be a sinner. I would say that trying to use God's word to justify discrimination is itself a sin. But I don't get to make that call. Neither do those people. Only God gets to judge. He will decide who has followed his word. Only God gets to decide who has repented and the punishment for our sins. How sad that this person, and others who do the same, forget (ignore) one of, if not the most, important laws spelled out repeatedly in the Old and New Testament: Love everyone as God loves you. That law does not have an exception for those that another human has judged a sinner. So I say with love to all you of you who use his word to justify your anger and hatred, God loves everybody. He commands you to do the same. No exceptions! Robert Soltz Medford HB 3470 needs help Oregon House Bill 3470, the Climate Stability and Justice Act, caps greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with goals established by HB 3542, approved in 2007 without enabling programs. It needs help. The way to have a positive impact on HB 3470 is to contact as many of your political representatives as you can. In the past, I have said that we cannot wait for the politicians to act. It's up to us; we need to act by contacting them now. The key targets are members of the House Energy and Environmental Committee, your regional representatives, and members of the House and Senate leadership team. They need encouragement from us to act on behalf of both us and future generations. Visit the SOCAN site for contact information: ocan.info/state-political-action and socan.info/political-action-update for information about the bill. You may be frightened to learn that for a livable planet, we must stay under 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit of warming, a limit we will overshoot if we fail to act with urgency. Think about making contact and picture your children and grandchildren; the way we live now can be improved. We should not allow the fossil-fuel corporations to destroy their future. Louise Shawkat Ashland Re-elect Case Please join me in re-electing School District 6 Board Member Cindy Tilley Case. I have known Cindy most of her life, and I can wholeheartedly verify that Cindy is a person of integrity who has consistently and faithfully represented the interests of her constituents in the Gold Hill community since becoming a member of the School Board 20 years ago. I know she puts a lot of thought into the matters that face the board before she makes a decision or recommendation. It is crucial that we have knowledgeable, experienced, caring School Board members who are looking after the needs and desires of the communities the district serves. Cindy is one of these board members. We are very fortunate to have such a person as Cindy representing our area, and I urge you to join me in confidently voting to re-elect Cindy Tilley Case to the School Board. Laura E. Liddell Gold Hill R. Charles Snyder Oh, my God, I can't believe it. Charlie has been a friend since 1976. He has been there for me in good times and bad. I still have his phone number on my phone. The last time I saw him was at the station and I was homeless (2013). He put minutes on my phone and gave me some cash. We went through to a marriage counseling camp when we were with our spouses at the time. I knew who he was because of his voice. I just can't believe he's gone. I wish I could attend his memorial service. I truly will miss him.
