Jamboree aids team evaluation photo by Drew Fleming South Medford High football coach Bill Singler used Thursday�s four-team jamboree as a stepping stone to what he hopes to be a successful season. The Panthers did battle with Ashland and Crook County at Spiegelberg Stadium in two, 12-minute quarters, using the experience to evaluate his team. Also competing was North Medford, who didn�t face its cross-town rival. "I think we accomplished a lot," said Singler. "A lot of evaluations were made and we stayed healthy. That was my main concern." The Panthers got good performances out of running back Jimmie Maddox and sophomore quarterback Boomer Marshall, who received the majority of playing time at quarterback due to a thumb injury to starter John McKay. "Jim gave us a burst for running the ball and some needed enthusiasm," said Singler. "Boomer handled himself very well, getting us into the offense." North Medford coach Rod Rumrey also relished the opportunity to play against Thursday�s squads. "I really like playing against somebody other than ourselves," said Rumrey. "We were getting a little lethargic in practice, so this was good for us." Linebackers Tyler Graham and Matt Havniear stood out at the linebacker position for the Black Tornado. "Our offensive line played well at times," said Rumrey. "And our defensive line showed a lot of emotion and hustled to the ball." Boys Soccer EUGENE � The South Medford boys soccer team tied both games of a three-team jamboree Thursday, gaining a little more experience for the coming season. The Panthers competed against high school teams from Marist and soccer powerhouse South Eugene in the jamboree, which featured 60 minute- games. In the first game, South Medford played to a scoreless tie with Marist. The Panthers then tied South Eugene, 1-1, with a goal scored by junior Pat Lower off an assist by freshman Corey O�Neill. "Against quality teams we put together a decent performance," said South Medford coach Dave Potter.
