Hiker rescued after falling down mountain from trail ... LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Letters to the Editor, July 6 Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jul. 6, 2016 at 12:01 AM Posted Jul. 6, 2016 at 12:01 AM » Social News Work with police The Ashland police are not ignoring the issue of racism. I recently spoke to Tighe O’Meara, our chief of police, about this issue. Tighe, as a gay officer, knows bias. He has had numerous sessions with his officers about "implicit bias," a bias we all have; a bias everyone has. The Ashland police do not want to ignore this issue; they want to be a part of solving this problem. Often their hands are tied due to legal issues. Instead of pointing fingers at the police (as a recent letter to the editor did) we should work hand in hand with them to find a solution to this problem. Jerry Kenefick Ashland Members of the club Well, it sure looks like the Medford city councilors are card-carrying members of the Good Old Boys Club. Faced with a choice of two well-qualified candidates, with actual experience in the job class, the council chose longtime political hack Rob Patridge. Patridge has been shopping for an elected office or political appointment for years. The city manager position will look good on his resume when he runs for office in a few years. Let’s just hope he does no damage in the meantime. Thanks, council, for another brilliant decision. City department heads, check your six. Ted Krempa Medford GOP slings mud Since her decision to run for the presidency, Hillary Clinton has been subjected to an incessant barrage of mudslinging. Republicans have employed an established advertising ploy based on the premise that even the most outrageous claim repeatedly voiced over an extended period of time will become indelibly associated with the product or person. Despite an impressive record of service (secretary of state 2009-2013) and U.S. senator from New York state (2001-2009) rumors concerning Hillary Clinton’s veracity, patriotism and capability are continuously voiced by Republicans who never proffer tangible proof of their nefarious allegations. The naive assumption that “they couldn’t print it if it wasn’t true” is still believed by many. The Republican Party’s overt hostility and outright refusal to cooperate in any meaningful fashion with President Obama during his tenure has exposed the inborn prejudice of a party that is understandably aghast at the prospect of the black interloper being succeeded by a woman! Recently their prevarications on the subject of true equality concerning race and the sexes has been clarified by the spate of restrictive abortion bills enacted by chauvinistic Republicans in red states. Could the Republicans' visceral hatred of Hillary include her gender? Bob Warren Medford Anyone paying attention? I noticed in the Friday, July 1 issue of the MT that an AR-15 rifle with two 30-round magazines was stolen from a car on Delta Waters Road. Is anyone paying attention to this?
