Heath, Cloyd pace Phoenix swimmers GRANTS PASS - Justin Heath and KC Cloyd each finished first for the Phoenix boys swim team at the preliminaries of the District 4 meet. Heath took first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:16.54, while Cloyd took the 200 individual medley in 2:23.79. Heath also finished second in the 200 freestyle, while Anthony Byrd took third in the 50 free. Teammate Jeff Stone grabbed second in the 100 backstroke. In girls, Maggie Morefield was the Pirates top finisher with a third-place in the 100 backstroke. Hidden Valley's Lynsey Foree set a new district mark in the 100 free with a time of 56.23. The old mark was 56.31 established by Hidden Valley's Jamie Brown in 1999. Skiing SOUTHERN LEAGUE - At Mount Ashland, the Ashland boys skiing team grabbed first place after one day in the giant slalom event of a Southern League meet. Skiing wraps up today with the slalom event. The Grizzlies scored 30 points with Lakeview in second at 24. South Medford is third with 12 points. In girls, Ashland is in a three-way tie for the top spot with North Medford and South Medford. Each team has 18 points.
