The resident, who lives in the 1800 block of Hibiscus Street, was awakened about 10:30 p.m., Medford police said. When he walked into his garage to check on things, he found a man pushing a new Honda dirt bike outside. The surprised burglar dropped the dirt bike and fled. The thief was still able to make off with two "FIT" BMX bikes, each worth $500, police said. One has a pink frame and the other has a steel frame. Investigators determined the burglar went through an unsecured gate, then used a pry bar to open a side door that accessed the garage. Police said they were unable to find the suspect or the two pilfered bicycles during an "extensive" search of the area that included the use of a K9 unit. The suspect is described as a white or light-skinned male in his early to mid 20s, 5-feet-10 to 5-feet-11, with a slender build. He was wearing baggy jeans, a light gray shirt and a black beanie with white writing on it. On Wednesday afternoon, police were still searching for the man. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Medford police at 541-770-4784. Reach reporter Ryan Pfeil at 541-776-4468 or [email protected] . Follow him at www.twitter.com/ryanpfeil .
