Of couse, head coach Seth Womack was one all along. "We're the best team in the Midwestern League, in my opinion," he said. "We said that going into this year and that's how we feel." Jaxson Jones scored his fifth rushing touchdown of the game in overtime and Noah Page clinched the victory with an interception in the end zone as No. 7 Eagle Point picked up its second straight win over a Midwestern League opponent ranked in the top 10 by beating No. 5 Ashland, 50-42, at Eagle Stadium. Jones gained 120 of Eagle Point's 374 rushing yards and the Eagles' defense finally got the stop it needed after watching Ashland fight back to force the extra session with a late touchdown and two-point conversion. After Jones slashed into the end zone on a sweep to give the Eagles the first points of overtime, the Eagle Point elected to go for two. Jones bulldozed his way up the gut to put the pressure on Ashland. The Grizzlies (4-2, 3-1 MWL) were in good position to answer when quarterback Tucker Atteberry, who decimated the Eagle Point secondary all night, scrambled out of the pocket on second-and-goal from inside the 10, but his pass to Hakim Pries in the corner of the end zone was hauled in by the diving Page. The play set off a wild celebration by the Eagles (5-1, 3-1), who are trying to pin down their first state playoff berth since 1997. "We've been waiting for this one for a while, so this was fun," Womack said. Atteberry completed 30 of 38 passes for 401 yards and three touchdowns, including a picture-perfect, 55-yard bomb to Pries that cut Eagle Point's lead to two with 5:39 left in regulation. Atteberry then scrambled and threw all the way across the field to a wide open Oliver Warren to tie the game with the two-point conversion. Eagle Point had a chance to finish the game in regulation after driving to the Ashland 22 with 27 seconds left, but quarterback Nate Page's pass into the end zone three plays later was picked off by Warren. "You gotta hand it to our kids, despite taking two steps backwards, we kind of took some steps forward and tried to get ourselves back in the game," Ashland head coach Charlie Hall said. "We were losing kids left and right tonight and a lot of kids that weren't ready to play came in and they did a great job. I'm proud of our kids and our effort."
