Police find truck of Medford man missing since last June A missing man's truck has been recovered almost a year after he disappeared. Comment By Mandy Valencia MailTribune.com By Mandy Valencia Posted Jun. 8, 2013 @ 12:01 am Updated Jun 8, 2013 at 3:00 AM By Mandy Valencia Posted Jun. 8, 2013 @ 12:01 am Updated Jun 8, 2013 at 3:00 AM » Social News A missing man's truck has been recovered almost a year after he disappeared. Medford police have confirmed that a 1971 GMC pickup belonging to Chase Johnson Cook, 22, who last lived on Genesee Street in Medford, was found on a large property in Williams. Cook was last seen on June 23, 2012, at a Minute Market on East Main Street in Medford. On June 28, Cook's vehicle was reported as abandoned on Highway 238 near the border of Jackson and Josephine counties, police said. By the time law enforcement arrived, the vehicle was gone. Witnesses confirmed the vehicle was Cook's truck, which had been seen along the road for "several days," police said. According to Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau, police were contacted by property owners who found the abandoned vehicle on a remote section of their land in the 1600 block of Powell Road in Williams. The truck had been repainted and stripped of parts. On June 3, Medford detectives towed the vehicle back to Medford for further processing. "We believe the truck was stolen, but we have not been able to determine where the vehicle was stolen from," Budreau said. Medford detectives will coordinate with Jackson County Sheriff's Search and Rescue to search for Cook in areas of Jackson or Josephine counties, police said. Foul play has not been ruled out in Cook's disappearance, but police believe Cook may have been suicidal before he disappeared. Investigators said they have identified some individuals who were in possession of Cook's truck after he went missing, and they are cooperating with detectives, according to police. Investigators indicated the truck might have been stolen after Cook abandoned it. In a Facebook group run by Cook's family, his mother, Brenda Johnson, of Ashland, posted a message to friends regarding the truck's discovery. "I don't blame someone for taking it after four days — we don't know who it was," Johnson wrote. "The police are really inspired to search more thoroughly now that they know Chase is probably within walking distance from where the truck broke down." More than 50 people posted on the page offering their consolation and support to Johnson, who wrote that she was struggling with her emotions. "Wow, really having a rough morning," she wrote. "I can't seem to stop crying — not that I'm trying. I am so broken right now." Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Medford police Det. Tony Young at 541-774-2230.
