Nutter, Trask shine at S.O. Speedway Bill Nutter proved that it paid to be a nice guy on Saturday night at the Southern Oregon Speedway. Nutter loaned a spare radiator to Eric Trask, which allowed Trask to run in the feature event of the final sprint car feature of the 2001 season. As things turned out, Trask ran a strong second in the race, finishing behind only Nutter, who took the checkered flag. Chad Bauer finished fifth in the feature to wrap up the season points title in the sprints. Ron Smith Jr. earned the division's rookie-of-the-year honor. While the sprints completed their action at the speedway for the season, the latest chapters in the battle for supremacy in three other classes continued to unfold. The top three drivers in the pro stocks finished in order, with Jim Walker Jr. edging brother Tony for honors. Frank Word III was third in the feature. Walker Jr. continues to hold a comfortable edge in the points over his brother and Word III as the season heads toward the finish line. Also Saturday, Tom Lanigan continued moving toward a points title in the mini stocks. Lanigan claimed the feature, finishing ahead of Clarence Cole and Pete Bowne in the main event. Lindsey Bryant took home the victory in the super trucks. John Cahill, the 1999 champion, was second in the feature. Racing continues Saturday night at the speedway.
