Richards' trey bails out SOU KIRKLAND, Wash . -- Ali Richards has not been known as a scorer in her three seasons as a Southern Oregon University point guard. But the Phoenix High product produced on the offensive end Friday as the 15th-ranked Raiders defeated the Northwest College Eagles, 64-63, in Cascade Conference women's basketball. Richards, who tossed in a career-high 12 points, banked in a 3-pointer from straightaway with five seconds remaining to lift the Raiders to the come-from-behind victory. Southern Oregon got its final possession of the game on a Monica Fisher rebound trailing 63-61 with 26 seconds to go. The Raiders hurried the ball up court, but Southern Oregon coach Shirley Huyett didn't like the offensive set and called a timeout with 11 seconds to play. "I basically told Ali Richards, Melissa England and Lauren Mohan if they got open at the 3-point line to take the shot," said Huyett. The final score was only the second time the Raiders had the lead the entire game. "Even though we didn't play very well, we hung in there and kept battling back," said Huyett. "We overcame some not very spectacular play." Freshman Emily Wiley put up a season-high 15 points to lead the Raiders. "We got the rebounds when we needed and made the shots when we needed to put ourselves in position to win the game," said Huyett. Men's Basketball CONCORDIA 81, SOUTHERN OREGON 73 -- At Portland, Vincente Harrison poured in a game-high 21 points as Concordia took advantage of SOU's shooting woes. The Raiders knocked down only 37 percent of their shots compared to 51 percent by Concordia (11-6). SOU went 26-for-70 from the field and 4-for-20 from three-point range. Obie Strickler paced the Raiders with 20 points, while Shavon Haynes and Barron Lacy each had 13 for SOU (3-14). Haynes also added a team-high 10 rebounds as Southern Oregon won the battle of the boards, 44-34.
