Longmire, Sim spark Ducks By The Associated Press Dec 30, 2008 12:00 AM A A EUGENE — LeKendric Longmire scored 14 points and three other Oregon players reached double figures in the Ducks' 86-74 win against Long Beach State on Monday. Joevan Catron added 13 points and 10 rebounds, Garrett Sim scored 12 and Michael Dunigan had 10 points. The Ducks (6-6) have won two straight heading into the Pac-10 Conference season. Donovan Morris led all scorers with 18 points, while T.J. Robinson had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the 49ers, who are coached by Dan Monson, the son of former Oregon coach Don Monson. Leading 45-39, Oregon opened the second half with a 16-2 run to take a 61-41 advantage by the 15:13 mark. Dunigan scored six during that stretch, as did Longmire, who teamed with Kamyron Brown to end the run with six straight fast-break points off turnovers. Trailing 66-47 with 11:48 to play, the 49ers (5-7) employed a full-court press that rattled Oregon into turnovers on three straight possessions and sparked a 13-3 run. But Tajuan Porter, who struggled to find his shooting touch all game, scored his first points of the night on a 3-pointer to restore the double-digit lead. Oregon St. 59, Seattle 50 At Corvallis, Calvin Haynes scored a career-high 24 points to lead Oregon State to its fourth straight win. The Beavers (5-5) have won five of six since snapping a 25-game losing streak on Nov. 30. Michael Wright led Seattle (7-5) with 12 points and eight rebounds, but fouled out with 4:03 remaining and the Redhawks trailing by three. Haynes came off the bench to score nine points during a 12-0 first-half run that helped the Beavers overcome a slow start. The sophomore guard shot 6-of-9 from the field and 10-of-12 from the free throw line. He also had five rebounds and three steals. No. 17 Arizona State 84, Central Connecticut State 47 At Tempe, Ariz., James Harden scored 24 points and Arizona State routed Central Connecticut State, matching its best start in 34 years. Ty Abbott added 15 points and Jeff Pendergraph 14 for the 17th-ranked Sun Devils (11-1), who hit 19 of their first 22 shots from the floor and their first 15 from inside the arc. Arizona State was perfect from inside the 3-point line until Harden missed a runner in the lane with 18:07 to go. Arizona 71, Weber State 65 At Tucson, Ariz., Nic Wise scored a career-high 23 points as Arizona overcame a slow start and the absence of leading scorer and rebounder Jordan Hill. Hill sat out with a lower left leg injury sustained in practice a few days ago but should be ready when Arizona (9-3) plays its Pac-10 Conference opener Jan. 2 at California. Kellen McCoy had 16 points to lead Weber State (6-7) in the battle of the Wildcats. Chase Budinger finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds for Arizona.
