He was born June 13, 1943 in Joliette, N.D. to James E. and Ellen Emma Esther Pitty (Smith) Fitzgerald. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war. He worked for 42 years on the North Slope of Alaska (Prudhoe Bay) building ice roads from 1968-2010. After retiring he got back to his first love, farming and ranching. He moved back to the Eagle Point farm he originally purchased in 1981 and began raising cows, pigs, chickens, and pheasants. He loved riding around on his four-wheeler checking on the animals and taking care of everything. He is survived by his four children, Maria Fitzgerald (38), Laura Nelson (33), William Fitzgerald (31), and David Fitzgerald (28), Seven Grandchildren, Caitlin 15, Christopher 14, Ty 14, Cayla 8, Emily 7, Benjamin 6, and Wesley 4; three sisters, Ellen Marcianak, Ruby Dybedahl, and Ruth Green; sisters-in-law, Ruth Fitzgerald, Shirley Fitzgerald, and Marlls Glennen; and brother-in-law, John “Bud” Pettis. Archie was preceded in death by his parents; all four of his brothers, Ralph, Jake, Elmer, and Robert (Paul) Fitzgerald; and his sister, Alice Pettis. There will be a chapel service at 10:00 a.m. June 12, 2015 at Eagle Point National Cemetery,, 2763 Riley Rd., Eagle Point, Ore. 97524 with Pastor Aaron officiating and a reception to follow at the family farm.
