Court sides with Sherm�s in SAMIS lawsuit The Medford company is ordered to pay the grocery store nearly $100,000 A Jackson County Circuit Court judge has ordered SAMIS Inc. to pay nearly $100,000 to Sherm�s Thunderbird Market Inc. Sherm�s filed a $150,000 suit on March 6 against SAMIS Inc., a Medford company that processes worker compensation claims for self-insured public and private clients. The suit claimed that Sue Crawford, the company�s president, had improperly used funds from the grocery store�s accounts during a four- to five-year period, rebilling the grocery store for previously paid expenses. The stipulated final judgment was signed by Judge Mark Schively, Crawford and attorneys for both sides on April 12. Schively ordered a judgment of $96,159.85, plus interest from March 6, as well as legal and court costs. "We�re happy with the court settlement," said Sherm�s owner Sherm Olsrud. The supermarket has turned over its third-party administration to Health Futures in Medford. Joe Kellerman, Sherm�s attorney, and Bill Fowler, representing Crawford, declined comment. Telephone calls to SAMIS� office at 2594 E. Barnett Road, and Crawford�s residence were not answered. Crawford, 54, formerly known as Suzanne Worthington, was arrested by Medford police on Feb. 19 on a charge of first-degree aggravated theft, in connection with the Sherm�s case. She was jailed and released the same day. No trial date has been set. SAMIS served a variety of public and private clients before police began investigating irregularities. Ashland, Grants Pass, Klamath Falls, Roseburg, Klamath County School District, Douglas County, Josephine County, Washington County, Croman Corporation, Crystal Springs Packing Co., Sabroso Company and Yamanouchi Consumer Inc. have been among SAMIS� clients.
