Johnathan David Vigil, 20, will appear before a judge on charges of hit-and-run driving, driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving, Jackson County sheriff’s Capt. Joe Puckett said. Instead of being lodged in the county jail, Vigil stayed in the county sobering center and was released Saturday morning. At about 9 p.m. Friday, an Eagle Point police officer was parked along the 1000 block of South Shasta Avenue when Vigil, driving a Pontiac, smashed into the rear of the patrol car. Both cars were totaled, Puckett said. After the crash, Vigil ran from his car and was later apprehended by sheriff’s deputies who were already in the area. When deputies caught up to Vigil, they found the Eagle Point man had sustained a large cut on his head as a result of the wreck, Puckett said. Vigil was treated at a Medford hospital for his injuries before being released late Friday night. Deputies then transported him to the detoxcenter.
