According to Deputy Chief Warren Hensman, at about 9:30 p.m. Monday, a woman working as a pizza delivery driver was in the middle of a delivery near Terra Avenue and Mohawk Street in Ashland when she felt something pressed against her back. When she turned around, she reportedly saw a college-aged man holding a device that resembled a taser or stun gun and two other young men approaching her car. One of the three men allegedly demanded the pizza and her money. Police reported that the driver surrendered the pizza before escaping in her car. The pizza driver had been called to the location with a delivery order. When she rang the doorbell at the provided address, the resident informed her he didn't order a pizza and she walked away. It was after she returned to her car that the suspects approached and told her they had ordered the pizza. The suspects, described as three African American college-aged men, were allegedly captured on camera at the nearby 7-Eleven on Siskiyou Boulevard. Two suspects were seen wearing black hooded sweatshirts, sweatpants or shorts. The third man was seen wearing a gray sweatshirt and jeans. Hensman said the suspects were seen driving a silver Mercedes-Benz with an Oregon plate that may contain the numbers "214." The plate number was gathered from the 7-Eleven surveillance footage. Because the case is actively under investigation, Hensman declined to say whether the woman gave the suspects money or the pizza company where the victim works. Hensman said detectives were "actively" pursuing the case, and that he planned to release more information after detectives make an arrest. "I'm hoping that we'll have some sort of conclusion in the next 24 to 48 hours," Hensman said. Reach reporter Nick Morgan at 541-776-4471 or nmorgan@mailtribune.
