By Sanne Specht Mail Tribune A White City man, reported missing last Wednesday, has been found alive and well in Sacramento, Calif., his caretakers report. Jerry Clifton Murphy, a resident at Laurel Pines Retirement Home in White City, apparently took an unscheduled trip to visit family, said caregiver Tina Cushman. "He was on a jaunt and he didn't tell anybody," said Cushman. "His sister lives in California. I'm sure that's where he was headed." Murphy, who requires medication for physical and mental health reasons, is described by Cushman as "a sweet guy and really friendly." Murphy left the facility located in the 3100 block of Avenue A at around noon on Jan. 24 to run errands. Jackson County sheriff's Detective Sgt. Colin Fagan said on Friday no one knew exactly where Murphy was headed. Investigating officers were told it was not uncommon for Murphy, who is described as 5 feet, 6 inches tall with red hair and blue eyes, "to head out during the day to take care of business." "He's not been known to walk away before," Fagan said. Advertisement When Murphy failed to return by 7:30 p.m., workers contacted police, said Fagan. Murphy was located by officers of the Sacramento Police Department at about 10 a.m. Sunday, said Fagan in a brief news release Sunday. Murphy is at U. C. Davis hospital in California undergoing evaluation. "He's fine," said Cushman. "He hasn't had his medication in a few days, but (the doctors) called and got a list of his meds. So that's all taken care of." Police were concerned because of freezing temperatures and reports that Murphy was wearing only a blue jacket, khaki pants and white tennis shoes. He also was reported to have no money or vehicle at the time of his disappearance. Cushman said the affable Murphy "always has money" and speculates he traveled by bus to Sacramento. "I don't know when he's going to come back," said Cushman. "His sister has been contacted." Cushman said it is rare for residents of the White City retirement home to end up on the missing persons list. But it does occasionally happen, she says.
