Jarrod Edward Garwood, 32, of the Rogue River area, was arrested on charges of attempted first-degree kidnapping, second-degree kidnapping, strangulation, coercion, fourth-degree assault, first-degree burglary and other crimes. Police earlier had said that Garwood had just been released from jail when he got word that his girlfriend was with another man. He went to the man's home early on Nov. 4, barged in, pulled the woman out naked and tried to get her into a car, according to police. She escaped and ran screaming for help. A neighbor let the woman into his house and chased off her pursuer before calling police. Garwood remained at large until an officer acting on a tip spotted the suspect in downtown Rogue River early Monday. A foot chase ended with the officer and Garwood fighting on the railroad tracks behind the Chevron station at 95 Pine St. Officers from the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and the Oregon State Police arrived and helped subdue Garwood with a stun gun. He was arrested at about 2:30 a.m. and taken to the county jail, where he remained today. The Rogue River officer who had initially chased down Garwood and fought with him had no life-threatening injuries.
