Photographer, others show at Psychic Fair By JIM DAVIS CENTRAL POINT -- Patricia Shields walked away from the aura photography booth at the Psychic Fair Saturday with a fuzzy, colorful picture of her head and one psychic's glimpse into her life. The Ashland woman said aura reader Ruth Childs was accurate in her reading, including the fact that Shields suffers from back pain. "I see a chiropractor a couple of times a month and I am strongly desirous of love and I am quite happy to have a loving conscience," Shields said. The aura photography was just one of several booths at the fair. On Saturday, a man meditated in a white pyramid frame in the corner of the Padgham Pavilion. Tibetan chants and American Indian drumming played on a sound system. And a bald man with a graying beard peered through a magnifying glass at a woman's palm. There were also an assortment of energy healers, crystal peddlers and artwork and decorations. Childs, who is from Portland, set up her shop against the wall where she hung aura pictures of past participants -- including a house plant that was covered in blue. Childs charges $20 per photograph. The readings are free. "I've seen auras my entire life," she said. As a child, she said she was able to predict when people were about to die -- a fact that caused her grief. "My nuclear family was not supportive of this," Childs said. About 20 years ago, Childs began giving readings of people's auras. She incorporated a camera and a computer with a printer into her metaphysical readings about 15 years ago. Childs said the Polaroid camera images allow others to see the auras she says she perceives without a camera. Gail Jones and her daughter Charlotte Caruba, 17, of Medford, received aura photographs and readings Saturday afternoon. Jones said she is interested in the spiritual world. "Who am I to pooh-pooh anything?" Jones said."I'm open to it but I take everything with a grain of salt." Childs told Jones that her aura shows she heals others just by listening to them, that she has an old soul and is a source of untapped psychic energy. "And, are you ready for this?
