The Rogues scored the game-winner on an unearned run in the ninth inning. Connor Lowrie reached on an error to open the inning and advanced to third on the play. Then with one out, Parker Kelly knocked in Lowrie with a base hit. Medford fell behind 2-0 in the seventh. After Austin Call doubled and Darrel Doll singled with one out to put runners on first and third for Marysville, Medford starter C.J. Eytel was pulled for reliever Colton Westfall, who gave up an RBI single to Jeff Ahern. T.J. Dove then drove in the Gold Sox’s second run on a groundout before Westfall got out of inning without any other damage. Westfall then blanked Marysville on one hit in the eighth and ninth for the victory. Medford tied the game 2-all in the eighth when Spencer Speer smashed a two-run double. Marysville starter Jack Cushing shut out Medford on one hit through six innings, while Eytel went 6⅓ innings and allowed eight hits and two runs with three strikeouts and one walk. League-leading Medford completed the three-game sweep against Marysville and will open a three-game series at second-place Chico today. American Legion NORTH COOS 7-3, NORTH MEDFORD 5-5: Brandon King collected five hits in the doubleheader and Jeremiah Huffman pitched a strong game in the nightcap as the North Medford Mavericks salvaged an American Legion A nonleague split at North Medford High. In the opener, King had two hits, including a double, in a losing effort for the Mavericks (25-18). King added three more hits in Game 2 and Huffman allowed four hits in a 6⅓ inning performance. Quinton Rumrey got the final two outs to record the save. The Mavericks scored what proved to be the winning run in the third inning when Jono Gassman walked with two outs and Tristan Drewien delivered an RBI double. Drewien scored on a passed ball to give the Mavericks a 5-0 lead. Tyler Seney had two hits and scored a run for North. CENTRAL POINT 16-10, KLAMATH FALLS 0-0: At Klamath Falls, Central Point received shutout pitching performances from Larson Kindreich and Jake Cartwright in an Area 4 Legion A sweep at Henley High. In Game 1, Kindreich (5-1) struck out 16 with no walks in a six-inning no-hit performance. Klamath Falls’ only baserunner came on a first-inning error. Sebasten Boivin went 4-for-5 with five RBIs to lead the Comets’ 22-hit attack. Boivin smacked a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Sean Bartlett added three hits and four RBIs, Kindreich contributed three hits and three RBIs and Cartwright had two hits and two RBIs. In Game 2, Cartwright (3-0) pitched a five-inning two-hitter with five strikeouts. Jacob Swartwout provided the big bat for the Comets (30-6, 14-4 Area 4) with two hits and four RBIs.
