Isn’t that contest coming up in a couple of weeks? What gives? — R.V., Talent Because only two people filed to run for sheriff (incumbent Mike Winters and his challenger, Medford police Lt. Tim George), they’re on the general election ballot in November. If three candidates had filed for sheriff, it would have been on the May 16 primary, with the top two vote-getters duking it out in November. Ballots to overseas residents and the military were mailed April 1; ballots to out-of-state Oregon residents will be mailed Monday; and ballots will be mailed to everyone else April 28. Voter information pamphlets will be mailed April 19-21. If you aren’t registered, don’t fret. In Oregon, you can register until 21 days before any election, so for the May 16 primary, you need to do that by April 25.
