Allred leads Pepperdine to NCA Jason Allred, a senior from Ashland, placed eighth in the men's golf NCAA West Regional over the weekend and led Pepperdine into the national tournament. Allred shot even-par 216 for the three days at the University of New Mexico Championship Course in Albuquerque. His best round was a 69 on the opening day, followed by a 75, then a 72 Saturday. Pepperdine placed fifth in the team race with a 13-over 877. The Waves were tied for 10th place heading into the final round, and only the top 10 teams earned automatic berths to the NCAAs May 29 in Columbus, Ohio. But four Pepperdine players shot even par to secure the berth, including Michael Beard, the team's No. 2 finisher, who tied for 23rd at 219. Arizona's Ricky Barnes and Minnesota's Justin Smith were co-medalists at 6 under 210. New Mexico and Washington shared the team victory at 872.   Mail Tribune Home | Ottaway Newspapers, Inc. | Dow Jones & Co., Inc. | Privacy | Contact Us Copyright 2001 Mail Tribune, Inc.
