I live in Ashland, and there sure as heck isn’t anyone circulating one in this town. Thanks! — Terri M., Ashland Come on, Terri! We’re sure there are plenty of petitions for you to sign in Ashland! Well, maybe not the kind you’d like to put your name on. We searched the Web and found a few groups pushing to put the income surtax measure approved by the Legislature to a public vote in February. They need 50,420 signatures by Nov. 25 to get it on the ballot. Advertisement Because a campaign representative didn’t call us back, we don’t know exactly where signature gatherers will be. But we can point you in the general direction. Supporters include the Taxpayer Defense Fund out of Keizer and Citizens for a Sound Economy (an Oregon chapter of a national political action group based in Washington, D.C.) and the Republican Party. The anti-tax campaign’s Web site is at www.stoporegontax.com and the phone number is 888-NO-ON-TAX (666-6829). A link on the Web site for locations of signature gatherers (click on the "Petitions" link) had no information this week. You can request your own petition via mail from the Web site, or keep your eyes peeled. Try places where lots of people gather, like farmers markets, fairs and other events. That’s where signature collectors can usually be found. Or call your local GOP office. Send questions to "Since You Asked," Mail Tribune Newsroom, P.O. Box 1108, Medford, OR 97501; by fax to 541-776-4376; or by e-mail to [email protected] . We’re sorry, but the volume of questions received prevents us from answering all of them.
