GORGEOUS GLASS Butte Falls is source for new line of glass-bottled water A new line of bottled water, Cascade Mountain Spring Water, is being bottled in Butte Falls By Buffy Pollock for the Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Buffy Pollock for the Mail Tribune Posted Sep. 29, 2014 @ 2:00 am By Buffy Pollock for the Mail Tribune Posted Sep. 29, 2014 @ 2:00 am » Social News A bottling plant in Butte Falls is providing the H2O for a new line of bottled spring water called Cascade Mountain Spring Water, which is being distributed in elegant glass bottles by a Santa Barbara couple with connections to the town. Christina and Jerry Beams of Butte Falls operate the Ginger Springs Water Bottling plant under an agreement with the city that allows it to sell part of its water supply from nearby Ginger Springs for a profit. The Beams started out in 2008 by selling bulk water in five-liter containers. Last year, the couple began to discuss a partnership with Bill and Delora Risser, who operate a water business in Santa Barbara, Calif. Delora Risser grew up in Butte Falls, and the embossed bottles bear an image of the locally famous "angel wings" on Mount McLoughlin, giving the new Cascade Mountain Spring Water a decidedly Jackson County pedigree. For starters, the plant will produce a 750-milliliter bottle with a distinct Ginger Springs metal cap. Eventually, Bill Risser said, the plant will distribute two additional sizes, 500 milliliters and 333 milliliters. The bottles are finding plenty of demand in California and natural food markets along the West Coast, said Risser, whose son Wyatt Risser is president of the Cascade Mountain line. "We're trying to solicit big distributors and build good relationships," Risser said. "We don't want to distribute. We just want to be a manufacturer and focus on quality water and making it available in as many places as we can." Risser said the simplistic design with the embossed angel wings are a tribute to the water source. "We actually spent a year trying to come up with the right design, and when it actually came out we were very, very happy with the end results," he said of the design, which refers to a figure that forms on the mountain as the snow melts each spring. Christina Beams, who also grew up Butte Falls, said offering a unique, local product of such superior quality was exciting for her. "It's very exciting to have such a unique bottle that really is getting such a great response. People see it, and there's nothing else like it on the market, and it's really good-tasting water," she said. "People are really getting away from plastic, so we really feel like this is going to take off and be really in demand. It's really just the best-tasting water there is. And to think that water from tiny Butte Falls, Oregon, could be all up and down the West Coast is pretty great." The local price for the water is $1.39 a bottle. Cascade Mountain Spring Water is available at a handful of locations around the valley, including Food4Less, Ashland Food Co-Op and Butte Falls General Store. Beams said more locations would be announced in coming months. Buffy Pollock is a freelance writer living in Medford.
