The Grizzlies produced another cardiac finish Friday to defeat Klamath Union, 28-27, in a Southern Oregon Conference football game at Modoc Field. Senior wide receiver Airin Brown hauled in a 43-yard desperation touchdown pass from quarterback Bryan Clevenger with no time left on the clock. Brown outmuscled Pelican defensive back Daniel Bennett at the 3 and fell into the left corner of the end zone. Logan Bishop’s fourth consecutive extra-point kick gave the Grizzlies the victory. Ashland (2-2, 1-1 SOC), began the winning, seven-play drive on its own 36 with 1:11 remaining. With 8 seconds left, Ashland was faced with a second-and-10 at the Pel 43 when Clevenger connected on his third TD pass of the contest. Klamath Union (0-2, 1-3) led 21-7 at halftime. Earlier in the season, Ashland defeated Gresham 35-34 when Clevenger scored on a 1-yard run and ran in a 2-point conversion late in the fourth quarter. ROSEBURG 42, CRATER 7 — At Roseburg, Crater return man Colin Schoonover shocked Roseburg by taking the opening kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown. But from that point on, it was all Indians. Fullback Paul Moothart scored three touchdowns and tailback Jake Dorsey ran for 185 yards on 15 carries to lead Roseburg’s ground game, which racked up 347 yards as the Indians steamrolled the Comets for their first Southern Oregon Conference victory of the year. Moothart scored on touchdown runs of 10, 6 and 10 yards. Nick Trowbridge gathered in touchdown receptions from both Kerry Hall and Scott Moyer, who shared time at quarterback. Roseburg (2-2 overall, 1-1 SOC) rolled up 435 total yards, while holding Crater (1-3 overall, 0-2 SOC) to just 192. The Comets had 20 yards rushing through the first three quarters, but were able to finish with 123 yards on the ground, led by Mike Peila’s 135 yards on 17 carries.
