The arrest occurred shortly after 11 p.m. on West 11th Avenue near Oak Patch Road, about 2 miles west of Autzen Stadium. Eugene police spokesman John Hankemeier said Hare was pulling out of the driveway of the Silver Dollar Club, a strip club, in a Toyota Tundra when he nearly crashed into a police officer's patrol car. The officer, who was driving west on West 11th Avenue, had to "brake aggressively" to avoid hitting the Tundra, Hankemeier said. The officer pulled Hare over for making an illegal left turn, but the traffic stop quickly turned into a DUII investigation. Hare was booked into the Lane County Jail early Friday morning on charges of DUII and reckless driving. The jail booking log shows he was released from custody shortly before 3 p.m. on Friday. Hare released a statement Monday morning that reads, "On the evening of December 10th I was stopped in my personal vehicle by Eugene City Police and charged with driving while under the influence of intoxicants. Fortunately, no one was injured. "I recognize the use of alcohol causes me to make poor decisions. I am therefor entering an outpatient treatment/diversion program for the better part of a year. I want to thank my family, friends and community in advance for their support while I deal with this very personal issue." The statement ends with, "This incident does not impact my ability to perform my duties as Josephine County Commissioner, nor does it affect my commitment to our community." Hare added that he would not be granting further interviews on the topic.
