Police searched each room at the Best Western, escorting some patrons to the motel office, after dispatch received a call from a man at about 2:10 p.m. claiming he had shot his girlfriend and that he wanted a negotiator. After searching for two hours and keeping the Black Bear restaurant on lockdown for diners' safety, police were unable to find evidence of a crime and released the diners from the restaurant. 3:15 p.m.: Police are clearing each room at the Best Western motel at 1154 E. Barnett Road, Medford, escorting some motel patrons to the office. Still no word whether there's been an actual shooting. 2:51 p.m.: Black Bear Diner on East Barnett Road has been put on lockdown status while Medford police investigate a reported shooting at a nearby motel. Medford police received a telephone call about 2:10 p.m. from a man who said he shot his girlfriend and that he wanted a negotiator, but nothing has been confirmed. The Bear Creek Greenway has been closed near the Black Bear Diner but Barnett Road remains open.
