After getting a tough test in Game 1, the Pirates routed North Valley in the next two games for a 25-20, 25-8, 25-3 win. "There was a lot more volleyball being played in the first game," Phoenix coach Tom Murphy said. "But after we got our serving game going, they had no transition offense. Those two next games became pretty quick." Ashley McCarty made the game even quicker by serving the first 16 points of Game 3. She finished 27-for-29 from the service line with three aces. "She kind of ran that one through for us," Murphy said. "Our serving really dominated their serve-receive." Advertisement As a team, the Pirates were 95 percent from the service line, led by Jessica Robinson’s 14-for-14, two-ace performance. Shonda George was 14-for-15 from the line. Senior outside hitter Jessica Howard led all players with eight kills. Junior middle hitters Lacy Lockett and Kelsey Nelson each added seven kills. The Pirates now have a two-match lead with two to play and the tiebreaker, thanks to a season sweep of second-place Henley. The title is the first for the school since 1987. "It has been quite a dry spell," Murphy said. "We don’t have to win another match, but it would be nice to get one heading into the state tourney." With the conference’s No. 1 seed clinched, Phoenix can now prepare for pool play at the Class 3A state tournament, starting Nov. 12 at Lane Community College in Eugene. HENLEY 25-25-25, ROGUE RIVER 16-17-15 — At Klamath Falls, Henley rolled to the Skyline victory, upping its second-place record to 9-2. Rogue River (2-8) got six kills and seven digs from Michelle Woodall, five digs from Michelle Krein, four kills and three digs from Kayla Tocher and five blocks from Serena Lee. ILLINOIS VALLEY 25-15-23-25-17, HIDDEN VALLEY 23-25-25-13-15 — At Cave Junction, Serena Barry had 17 kills, 10 digs and eight aces to lead Illinois Valley. Emily Dudley, who finished with 14 kills, closed out the match with two aces. Jessa Fairbanks added 10 kills and eight blocks, and Leilana Tausaga chipped in 17 kills and 20 digs for the Cougars. SOC ASHLAND 25-25-25, KLAMATH UNION 16-12-10 — At Ashland, Jessica Walters had an impressive stat line with 16 kills, five aces, four digs and two solo blocks to lead Ashland. The win keeps the Grizzlies (10-4 SOC) in a three-way tie with North Medford and South Medford for second place in the conference. Lindsey Stone had 25 assists along with two aces, and Liz DeFranco had 10 digs. ROSEBURG 25-25-25, CRATER 6-19-16 — At Roseburg, Nora Burmeister finished with seven kills and Emily Waldron added five to help fifth-ranked Roseburg close out the regular season with a win. Kalista Harrison led the Indians (13-1 SOC) at the net with six blocks, while Natalie Hooper and Corynn Jorgensen each had seven digs and Sara Smith notched 13 assists. SOC-champion Roseburg hosts a state-playoff game on Oct. 30 against a yet-to-be-determined opponent. GRANTS PASS 25-20-25-25, EAGLE POINT 23-25-21-14 — At Eagle Point, Ashley Franko had 13 kills and Chelsie Chamberlain 17 digs for Grants Pass. Eagle Point managed to grab early leads in each of the first three games but only came away with one victory. Danielle Cereda served four aces and Kim Gonzalez hammered home 10 kills to help the Cavers finish 4-10 in conference play. Senior Shannon Richardson led the Eagles with 15 kills, 18 digs, four blocks and a 16-for-16 service effort. Teammate Jill Shaw also managed four blocks as Eagle Point finished 6-8 in the SOC.
