Mail Tribune / Andrew Mariman Pear Blossom Pageants Joy Lashelle Ingraham was crowned Pear Blossom queen Saturday evening in the Senior Royalty Pageant, the grand finale of Pear Blossom pageants. Ingraham, a senior at South Medford High School, is the daughter of Roger and Alice Ingraham. She has a 3.5 grade point average, has received academic and citizenship awards at school, and participates in a variety of activities, including Girls State, the Young Republicans Coalition and varsity track. She plans to attend law school and have a career in law. As Pear Blossom queen, Ingraham receives a $2,500 scholarship sponsored by Umpqua Bank, pageant director Darcey Mann-Self said. First runner-up was Rebecca Nitcher of Phoenix High School. She gets a set of luggage sponsored by Bi-Mart, Mann-Self said. Sarah Cate of Ashland High School was named second runner-up. She gets a DVD player sponsored by Karizma salon. All eight contestants receive $500 scholarships. The princesses, chosen by their schools and a selection committee, were judged on school leadership skills, academic achievement, community involvement, an interview with the judges, essay writing and presentation, as well as answers to impromptu questions on stage Saturday night at the North Medford High School auditorium. Other members of the Pear Blossom Court include Natalie Brown, Cascade Christian High School; Brianna Beck, Crater High School; Chelsea Schoenlein, North Medford High School; Sarah Erickson, Eagle Point High School; and Lauren Schwartz, St. Mary’s High School. The junior and senior royalty pageants are a prelude to Medford’s biggest event of the year, the Pear Blossom Parade. Winners will ride in the annual parade down Central Avenue and Main Streets at 11 a.m. April 10.
