North boys blank Sprague One day removed from a shooting practice in Eugene, the North Medford boys soccer team put those skills to even better use Wednesday at Varsity Field. The Black Tornado outshot Churchill 21-8 on Tuesday but only came away with a 1-all tie. North (2-1-1) received more bang for its buck Wednesday, however, as the Tornado scored on its first four shots to upend Sprague 4-0 in a non-conference matchup. "Today we just jumped on them right away," said North coach Rich Garcia. "That quick start helped us a lot. As soon as we got that first goal it felt like the goals just kept coming and weren�t going to stop." Babak Asgharian got the Tornado on the scoreboard 30 seconds into the contest after swiping the ball from a Sprague defender and then drilling a shot into the net. Asgharian notched his second goal six minutes into the match off a nifty leading pass from Colin Hunter. One minute later Dominic Crenshaw got into the act when he tapped Asgharian�s crossing pass into the net. "All he had to do was one-touch it in the box," said Garcia. "It was just a pretty goal setup by Babak." Eric Brawner capped the scoring three minutes later on a 12-yard blast following another assist by Hunter. "Babak Asgharian and Colin Hunter really put a spark into our game today," said Garcia. "They took it upon themselves to make sure we�d get some goals today." Despite the early onslaught, North only managed four more shots for the game as the intensity of the game shifted. "After that (early surge) the game was pretty much played even," said Garcia. "Once those Sprague boys got their feet under them they started playing better, and we started making substitutions to get everyone some playing time." Jon Cotta posted his second shutout of the season in goal for North, which also received a strong team effort on the defensive side of the field. GRANTS PASS 1, MARSHFIELD 0 � At Grants Pass, Japanese exchange student Keisuke Eiburha scored the game�s lone goal in the 37th minute and Caver goalkeeper Matt Lamont made that stand up in non-conference action. Eiburha scored off an assist by Justin Morrison, while Lamont notched his fourth shutout of the season for Grants Pass (4-2). Girls Soccer SOUTH EUGENE 2, ROSEBURG 0 � At Roseburg, Leslie Clark and Stephanie Hofer provided the offense for South Eugene in a non-conference win over Roseburg. Clark started the scoring with a goal in the eighth minute and Hofer added the final blow in the 45th minute as the Indians fell to 3-3 on the season. NORTH MEDFORD 1, THURSTON 1 � North Medford fought to a tie in a non-conference matchup with Thurston.
