MPD crosswalk sting leads to several tickets A three-hour crosswalk sting conducted by the Medford Police Department today led to several citations. By Sam Wheeler MailTribune.com By Sam Wheeler Posted Aug. 29, 2014 @ 6:13 pm By Sam Wheeler Posted Aug. 29, 2014 @ 6:13 pm » Social News A three-hour crosswalk sting conducted by the Medford Police Department today led to several citations.  The sting took place at an unmarked crosswalk at the intersection of Table Rock and Mace roads, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., a police news release said. Three citations and 32 warnings were issued for failure to stop and remain stopped for a pedestrian in a crosswalk, the department reported.  Two citations and one warning were issued for driving while using a cell phone, the release said.  Two citations and one warning were issued for failure to use a seatbelt, the release said.  One citation was issued to a driver without a license, and two citations each were issued for driving with a suspended license, driving uninsured and speeding, the release said.  According to Oregon law, there is a crosswalk at every intersection, whether it is marked with paint or not. Drivers must stop and stay stopped for a crossing pedestrian until the person has cleared their lane of traffic as well as the adjacent lane. Also, it is against Oregon law to pass another vehicle that is stopped at a marked or unmarked crosswalk to allow a pedestrian to cross the road. Failing to stop for a pedestrian at a crosswalk or passing a stopped vehicle at a crosswalk can result in a $260 traffic violation. Reach reporter Sam Wheeler at 541-776-4471 or [email protected].
