Extras will be spectators at a fight scene and must be 18 or older. Scenes will be filmed both morning and evening, and extras are needed for both, but especially for the evening shots, according to Producer Luis Rodriguez. The film, called “Concrete Canvas,” focuses on the struggle of an ex-boxer on the streets and his efforts to get his life in order. Directed by Gary Lundgren, the film is intended to be shown at national and international film festivals. Troy Wohosky, a professional boxer who is owner and head coach of Spartan Boxing Club, will have a major role in the movie. “It’s crazy, because the character I play is actually being myself: a coach, a boxer and the owner of the boxing club,” said Wohosky. Rodriguez said some cast members will fly in from Los Angeles, and production is estimated to be completed by middle to late summer. No particular traits or auditioning is required for the extras. “We just want people who are really interested in being on a film set,” said Rodriguez. “There are definitely opportunities to come back in the future.” Rodriguez and Lundgren have worked together before. “Black Road,” a 2015 sci-fi thriller set in the future, received the Audience Award at the Rainier Independent Film Festival in Washington in May and will show in New York in June. Rodriguez also has worked on “Masked,” and Lundgren has directed a number of films, including the locally produced “Redwood Highway” and “Calvin Marshall.” Rodriguez, who has been producing films for about six years, said he shot a video before a big fight at the Medford boxing club and came up with one of his characters in the process. He also got a personal taste of the boxing-club environment. “I started coming in the mornings and training with Troy and got hooked,” said Rodriguez. Spartan Boxing Club is a nonprofit organization at 729 Welch St., Medford. Wohosky said he attended a similar local boxing club, Bulldog Boxing, when he was younger, and when it closed, he opened Spartan Boxing Club.
