Klamath Independent Public Power (KIPP) will present its plan of action for creating a PUD at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Klamath County Community Meeting Room at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Pine Streets. A PUD would involve a local five-member board of directors as well as a manager to oversee operations. Such a district would require the purchase of Pacific Power's assets through the use of eminent domain. KIPP members believe residents could experience substantial savings through the use of public power in comparison to Pacificorp, parent company of Pacific Power. “It's not so much what's bad with Pacific Power,” KIPP member Art Martin told the Herald and News in a recent interview. “It's all the benefits with this: local control, local economic activity engine.” Pacific Power spokesman Bob Gravely emphasized in a recent Herald and News article the company doesn't intend to sell its assets, and also doesn't believe a PUD would lead to cost savings.
