William Justus Kirkman Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Nov. 23, 2014 at 2:00 AM Posted Nov. 23, 2014 at 2:00 AM » Social News Bill was born to Alice and Justus Kirkman, June 29, 1930 in Madera, Calif. After graduating from the University of Washington, he married his college sweetheart, Caroline Metlen. Bill served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War (1952-1955). After graduating from Princeton Seminary, he served as pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Lemoore, Calif., as a missionary in Korea and Singapore, followed by pastoring The Henderson Presbyterian Church, in Nevada. Bill retired from the ministry in the early '80s, and moved to Ashland, Ore. to begin counseling as a marriage and family therapist. He was active in Rotary Club, Meals on Wheels, and served as a Parish Associate for the Ashland First Presbyterian Church. He loved to ski, run, sail, hike, and was a member of the Ashland Rowing Club. Bill passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family and loving caregivers, November 13, 2014. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Caroline; sisters, Justine, Phyllis, and Jan; son, Wil; daughter, Johanna; and grandchildren, Emily and Keith. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday November 29, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church, Ashland. If desired, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation of OHSU, or the Presbyterian Church.
