The big movies opening this week are “Fifty Shades of Grey,” rated R, based on the popular book (and like the book, this is not for kids); and “Kingsman: The Secret Service,” an R action movie starring Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Caine. 2. Love is in the air - Valentine’s Day is Saturday! Do something special for the love of your life on the big day, or surprise him or her with gifts all weekend long. It can be a night of watching movies together, going out to eat, making a special meal or whatever your romantic heart desires. 3. This weekend is the Great Backyard Bird Count. You are encouraged to watch a particular area for 15 minutes and record your findings. People from across the continent will be participating, and it helps scientists keep track of the bird population. Go to http://gbbc.birdcount.org/ for more information. 4. The NBA All Star Game is Sunday night, which means that the weekend will see other fun, such as the slam dunk contest, the rising stars game and more. Go to http://www.nba.com/allstar/ for more information. 5. Friday is the first Friday the 13th of the year. Make it a fun night of watching scary movies (such as those from the “Friday the 13th” franchise), make special treats (black cat cookies, anyone?) or anything else fun you can think of.
