Be ready for snow on Southern Oregon passes Wednesday By Nick Morgan By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Dec 15, 2021 09:29 AM A A Weather.jpg With snow starting to stick on Southern Oregon roads and passes, the Oregon Department of Transportation is asking motorists to be ready for severe winter driving conditions. As of shortly before 9 a.m., weather warning advisories were issued for snow flurries and spots of ice at the Interstate 5 Siskiyou Summit south of Ashland and heavy snowfall and spots of ice on the Interstate 5 Sexton Pass north of Grants Pass. On Highway 238 at the Jacksonville Hill, between mile markers 28 and 33, ODOT road crews reported snow flurries and slushy conditions as snow pack was breaking up. Band of heavier precipitation moving through Josephine County into Jackson. Hayes Hill on HWY199 snowing. We expect a period of snow in coldest portions of Jackson/Josephine while cold temperatures linger this AM. Slow down if traveling. #orwx #cawx https://t.co/Yd3BCWeJbQ pic.twitter.com/GDrfkcpSed — NWS Medford (@NWSMedford) December 15, 2021 At lower elevations, the National Weather Service expects the snowfall on the valley floor to become a mix of rain and snow by 11 a.m. Across Southern Oregon, snow flurries are expected last at upper elevations through 8 a.m. Thursday, according to a weather advisory issued earlier this morning. Drivers should be prepared for severe winter driving throughout the day. Those who must travel should factor extra driving time and expect delays.
