Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend September 30, 2005 Grants Pass pulls away from Eagles EAGLE POINT — Needing a spark to break a 3-3 tie in the fifth and deciding game, Grants Pass turned to Karleigh Prestianni in a Southern Oregon Conference volleyball match against Eagle Point Thursday. The freshman came through. Prestianni served four straight points, enabling the Cavers to win 25-13, 22-25, 25-19, 20-25, 15-7. "I thought whoever had the most heart would stick it out, and they did," said Eagle Point assistant coach Rob Kleker. "They went on a run and finished us off." Grants Pass (5-2 SOC) also got a huge lift from another freshman — Natasha Portgerson — who contributed 15 kills and six blocks. Chelsey Chamberlain added 30 digs. Grants Pass took the first match in convincing fashion, but Eagle Point (2-5 SOC) charged back in the second game to even things out. Advertisement "They stepped up their defense in the second game," said Grants Pass coach Stacy Iverson. "Something clicked, and we couldn’t put a ball away." Relentless on defense, the Eagles once again came back in the fourth game before losing in the decisive finale. Kayla Mathis and Mickie Burns had 12 digs apiece for Eagle Point, while Katie Jolliffe and team captain Beth Logan provided 11 kills each in the losing effort. ASHLAND 3, KLAMATH UNION 0 — At Ashland, Ashland (7-0 SOC) remained undefeated with a 25-6, 25-10, 25-12 win. Jessica Walters (seven kills) and Ruby Stocking (five kills, five aces, six digs) led the Grizzlies. Maddison Thivierge added nine kills, and Natalie Lefler tallied 11 assists setting the last two matches. ROSEBURG 3, CRATER 2 — At Roseburg, Emily Waldron dropped 20 kills to help Roseburg win the SOC contest, 25-23, 14-25, 15-25, 25-20, 15- 8. Kalista Harrison had 11 kills and Tracy Filley added seven kills and four blocks for the Indians (11-5, 5-2 SOC). Crater’s Haley Hevern had a match-high 27 digs, Randi Salyer added 26 assists and Kirstin Davidson had a team-high nine kills, with 14 digs. Skyline Volleyball PHOENIX 3, ROGUE RIVER 0 — At Rogue River, servers Emily Lubonski, Annie Summers and Ellie Rodriguez were 55-for-56 and tallied 11 aces to lead Phoenix to the Skyline win, 25-15, 25-12, 25-10. Senior middle Kelsey Nelson had a match-high 17 kills, and senior setter Jessica Robinson added 24 assists for the Pirates (7-4, 2-2 Sky). Chelsea Westlake had nine kills and eight blocks for Rogue River. HENLEY 3, HIDDEN VALLEY 0 — At Murphy, Henley (6-0) remained undefeated in conference with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-18 Skyline win. Megan Swanson produced nine kills and nine blocks and went 9-for-9 on serves for the Mustangs (5-2, 3-2 Sky). Shannyn Brown added 10 digs and nine assists. MAZAMA 3, ILLINOIS VALLEY 1 — At Cave Junction, Mazama won the Skyline match 27-25, 25-14, 18-25, 25-13. IV nearly took the first match and won the third behind senior middle hitter Erika Riley, who turned in 17 kills, 11 blocks and seven digs. Emily Dudley added 24 assists and six aces, while Leilani Tausaga had seven kills for the Cougars (1-4). Cross Country DAVIS, PHOENIX WIN — Tyler Davis earned the top spot over the 5,000-meter course to help Phoenix edge North Valley by one point for a Skyline Conference win at Valley of the Rogue State Park Wednesday. Water Polo ASHLAND SWEEPS — At Ashland, the Medford boys and girls water polo teams dropped games to Ashland on Wednesday at the Southern Oregon University Pool. The Medford girls fell 15-3, while the boys lost 15-4. In girls, Elyse Coburn scored three goals and Erinn Jordan added another for Medford, while goalie Jenni Osmanski had nine blocks. The Medford boys were led by goals from Jordan Rigby, Jon Lawson, Lance Abbott and Josh Silver.
